Urgh. Well, to distract myself from the soul-sucking stuff, here's a short list of stuff I'll be doing in the future.

Funny how the desire to do stuff suddenly ten-folds after you recover from a slump. Wish me luck!

I have things to share!

- This post is a description of my life. I'm actually okay with this.

- For Mad Men-fans and friends of clothes, be sure to check Tom & Lorenzo's (who run an awesome blog about fashion and TV-shows) series on clothes in Mad Men and what those clothes tell about their wearers. Awesome stuff.

- My 750 Words process keeps on being a process, and after last week's break of the word dam in general this week was all about my creativity dam breaking, which means I have finally reached that stage again where I don't hate everything I write. YES! \o/

- Thanks to this I'm finally, FINALLY getting around to posting my woefully late [livejournal.com profile] help_haiti fic, after which I'll write the other stuff I've promised to people. A lesson learned: Don't participate in these events gain because this is PATHETIC AND YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED, SELF.

- I've been riding on a massive emotional roller-coaster for, like, forever, ranging from life changes to a long-time identity issue, but now things are starting to click in place. I feel extremely great over this.

- Will get around to posting the posts for my latest meme (LJ/DW) as well as the memes [livejournal.com profile] mrasaki tagged me for a long time ago (seriously, who is late in doing meme answers?). But in order to aid myself in getting rid of the "never post anything ever" habit, here is a 30 Days Of TV Meme.

Day 01 - A show that should never have been cancelled )

A short round-up of things.

- The news about Supernatural-fandom's latest fail has spread far and wide, but since one more link doesn't hurt, here's one to the best summary about what is going on. A short description: An author writes a Jensen Ackles/Jared Padalecki RPF in which they have sexy times in Haiti, and actual people of Haiti are exploited on the side. The author is called out on it, the author gets defensive. Discussion is had. I don't have anything to add that hasn't been said better by many others (such as here), but I think this kind of a story would have completely passed the radar completely in a smaller fandom, so the fact that it's talked about in the first place is pretty damn good.

- There has also been discussion about the exploitative side of hurt/comfort fiction, and while hurt/comfort is a total id genre and therefore incredibly appealing to me, after years of reading fetishistic Cloud-fic in FF7-fandom all I can say is ABOUT DAMN TIME. This and this are great posts about the subject.

- As far as real life politics go, Finland will soon have its second female prime minister, and perhaps even more importantly, its first female bishop. Female bishop who also happens to support same-sex marriages, which makes her very awesome.

- As far as real life politics further go, the trial against Prop 8 is ending soon. There is only one proper ending for that trial and that is that Prop 8 GOES DOWN.

So, apparently I'm in the mood to get patted on the head.

SecretAdmirerAnonymeme

I'll also be posting a meme and other stuff in the future, but here are some drabbles I've written for this request post. Just links 'cause I'm lazy.

Final Fantasy VI, Terra, tights

Angel, Cordelia Chase, we're all pretending

Deadwood, Joanie Stubbs, mad hatters

Final Fantasy VIII, Rinoa, bravery

Lost, Juliet, what she wishes she didn't know (WARNING: Spoilers for S6!)

I have few more drabbles to go for this post, then the requests for this post, then my [profile] help_haiti fic (this will be done before the former, sorry), and then I think I'm going do more writing memes. I'm trying to be on the roll this year and all.

Still in the mood for a meme, so. Taken from [livejournal.com profile] mrasaki.

Give me a fandom I'm into, or have been into, and I'll answer these questions. As for fandoms, if you know I know it, go for it.

1. The first character I first fell in love with
2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now
3. The character everyone else loves that I don't
4. The character I love that everyone else hates
5. The character I used to love but don't any longer
6. The character I would shag anytime
7. The character I'd want to be like
8. The character I'd slap
9. A pairing that I love
10. A pairing that I despise
11. Favorite character
12. My five favorite characters
13. My five least favorite characters
14. Which character I am most like
15. My deep, dark fandom secret

Things I've learned this week:

- Man, I sound like a robot. Seriously, I've been looking at the comments I've been dropping around and Kraftwerk starts playing in my head.

- If you feel paranoid about something, there's usually a reason for it. Not listening to your paranoia may lead to some academic fail. >_<

- FF7-specific: If you like both Tifa and Aerith, you will always and forever be in a minority. It's the law of nature.

- Kristin Kreuk-specific: Apparently if you play an unpopular female character on TV once, you will be a pariah forever. I mean some Smallville-fans are actually shocked that she wasn't Lana on that Chuck-episode. Way to be supportive of other women there, people.

- Female characters need more loving. True story.

And then the memes. Meme the First:

The first FIVE people to comment in this post get to request that I write a drabble/ficlet of any pairing/character of their choosing. (If I don't know the fandom, I'll give you chance to change, or I can make something up.) In return, they have to post this in their journal, regardless of their ability level.

DW version here so you can keep count.

Meme the Second:

Comment with the name of a female character (in any show, movie, book, comic, etc that you think I'm familiar with) and I'll tell you one thing I love about her. In return, you can do the same in your journal (if you like!).

You are also free to combine these two memes: Ask me about a female character, then make me write about her. Everything is a go this weekend!

January nears its end (already?!), and naturally it's going to be followed by February. This means the [profile] halfamoon will be on again, and that means loving your women characters for two weeks.

Thought #1: Yay!

Thought #2: I want to do the The Unpopular Woman Love Post again, except this time it would be squee-only because damn it, sometimes you need the feel-good.

Meanwhile I haven't heard from my winner bidder at [profile] help_haiti yet, so I'll be e-mailing them sometime today. Hopefully they're still interested.

I'm offering fic at [livejournal.com profile] help_haiti in exchange of donations. My thread is this one.

Time to jump on the meme wagon!

Ask me a fandom, and I will tell you:

+ OTP
+ Runner-up
+ Honorable mention(s)
+ Crack pairing(s)
+ Ship everyone else seems to like, but I don't
bofoddity: (Default)
So, [livejournal.com profile] kimouski and I have been hosting a fic thread. We've thinking of turning it into a community.

Dear Russel T Davies,

I've never watched one single episode of Torchwood, but the way you solidly stand by your story and vision makes me want to. If that makes you an asshole, then rock on, asshole.

- Me

Meanwhile, I've been dipping my toes in new things to fan about. Harper's Island and Leverage convinced me to go for a full swim. Will try more waters.

I've been wanting to try this meme.

Name your 10 absolutely favorite couples (het/slash/canon/fanon) and ask people to see what trends they notice about your couples. Try to pick different fandoms.

The reason I haven't yet is that I'm not a shipper by nature. My favorite relationships in fandom are almost without exception gen relationships, and I usually can't get behind a shippy ship unless it works on me on the gen level as well. So I'll do this in two ways: the gen version and the shippy version.

Gen (Mostly) OTPs )

I can handle non-gen takes on most of these pairings but most of the time it's the gen side I'm interested in. This how it's changes on the shippy list when I stick to the same fandoms:

Shippy OTPs )

So. Any trends? Other interesting stuff?

eta: And since it's a sensible thing to do, my all time favorite ships.

Shippy OTPs, Round II )
bofoddity: (Default)
Last year [livejournal.com profile] kimouski and I arranged Final Fantasy OTP War, in which you nominate and plug your het ship of choice, after which you prompt and write as much as you can. If anybody's interested in a rematch go and say HELL YEAH over here.
bofoddity: (Default)
Today, I went to check [livejournal.com profile] fanficrants for the first time in a long time, and saw this post about WIPs and how to write them. I didn't agree with all of it, but I thought it was very interesting to read. Then I looked at the comments and got annoyed.

Excuse me, what did you say about 'this is just for fun'? )

And some extra thoughts on assumptions about class in FFVII )
bofoddity: (Default)
Now THIS is a meme to get behind. Taken from various journals.

So I was adding some new interests to my LJ profile (because I, uh... have some new interests. Yes.) and found myself feeling defensive every time I typed a female name, thinking, basically, FUCK YOU, SHE'S AWESOME, because I felt as if someone somewhere was going to be criticizing my love for them.

So, anyway, then I made a list of women who make me want to say FUCK YOU, SHE'S AWESOME. They are far from the only women who are awesome, or the only women people need to be told to step off of, but they are the top ten I feel that way about, right now, off the top of my head.

If you want to argue with me about the awesomeness of any of these women, I am afraid I will simply be referring you to the subject line. THAT IS ALL.

So, here's mine.

Didn't stay as a top ten, though.. )

About Good Friday's Boycott )

Now, something I feel that everybody should read: Labor of Love, written by Thomas Beatie, is an article about a married couple where the husband is transgender, and who, due to his wife's inability to carry a child, decided to stop taking his testosterone and was inseminated. Despite the distinct lack of support from their family, friends and the doctors, the couple is now waiting for a healthy baby who's due in July. Definitely an inspiring story.
bofoddity: (Default)
So for the entire week, I have basically done nothing but cough my lungs out. Surely I have earned the right to do a TV-meme.

I like memes, okay? Cut for teh length )
bofoddity: ("I are angsty statue")
So, what if I wanted to convert somebody to femslash? I would use these two vids.

1 Xena, 1 Smallville )

And now, something different: Few links back in time, to my first experiences with fanfic.

Star Wars, my love! )
