The OTP Meme

I've been wanting to try this meme.

Name your 10 absolutely favorite couples (het/slash/canon/fanon) and ask people to see what trends they notice about your couples. Try to pick different fandoms.

The reason I haven't yet is that I'm not a shipper by nature. My favorite relationships in fandom are almost without exception gen relationships, and I usually can't get behind a shippy ship unless it works on me on the gen level as well. So I'll do this in two ways: the gen version and the shippy version.

Gen (Mostly) OTPs

1. Vorenus/Pullo (Rome)
2. House/Wilson (House MD)
3. Buffy/Faith (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)
4. Sephiroth/Cloud (Final Fantasy VII) (Canon only since the fanon takes only drive me crazy)
5. John/Scorpius (Farscape)
6. Vader/Luke (Star Wars)
7. Angel/Connor (Angel)
8. Sam/Dean (Supernatural)
9. Clark/Lex (Smallville) (Seasons 1-4)
10. Daniel/Betty (Ugly Betty)

I can handle non-gen takes on most of these pairings but most of the time it's the gen side I'm interested in. This how it's changes on the shippy list when I stick to the same fandoms:

I'm going to go out on a limb here (since I don't know some of these fandoms) and say I don't see any obscure pairings here. You seem to go for the relationships that stick closest to canon.

Also, why does the Shippy list have to be from the same fandoms as your Gen? I'd rather see your all-time favorites than a list so limited.

Yeah, I have my share of obscure pairings (even a couple of crossover ones), but it usually takes canon interaction to get me squee-y over something. I guess I need something solid to latch onto.

I see your point and edited the post accordingly. No huge changes but I got a couple of huger favorites in.

I can understand the canon part. What's interesting is that you don't have any Final Fantasy in there, which seems to be your main fandom. Hmmm.

As much as I like certain pairings in FF there aren't many pairings that get the OTP reaction out of me (Zidane/Dagger is the only one, but the other pairings simply were stronger). And in FF7 my OTP is pretty much Cloud/living, so I guess the FF pairings simply need a little more backing up from the gen side.

Not sure about the trends since I know only a few of the fandoms well enough -- but I gather that you're very much a canon shipper? And you define OTPs both romantically and platonically?

Hi, welcome back! :D And yeah, whether it's platonic or romantic, canon is pretty much the most obvious trend there. There are a lot of non-canon pairings I like, but they usually don't get the OTP squee from me.
