Sonoma County CA separates elderly gay couple and sells their home. (Article doesn't seem to be available at the moment, but I re-posted the contents in this post.)

I also commented about this to [livejournal.com profile] rosehiptea in her post, and she pointed out that since gay marriages are illegal in California this could happen to a lot more people. Maybe even marriage isn't enough to prevent this kind of crap from happening, but maybe it would help if these kind of rights weren't taken away in the first place. Or if we didn't question the right to these rights at all. Wouldn't it be great if it was so?!

a lot of people are questioning if this story is legit but you know what? it doesn't matter if this particular story is legit or not because this shit - and worse - is happening every. single. day. to people like clay and harold. i'm just so glad that this story has moved so many people, regardless of its accuracy. it's making people PAY ATTENTION TO THE SERIOUSNESS OF EQUAL RIGHTS FOR LGBTQ PEOPLE, which is what matters the most.

you've got to be fucking kidding me

But yes, this fucking crap is happening all the fucking time and yes, people sure as hell should be paying attention! BECAUSE THIS KIND OF SHIT SHOULDNT HAPPEN TO ANYBODY FUCKING EVER. Regardless of how true this particular story is the fact is that this shit happens for real and it will keep on happening until the world at large does something about it. People have to hear about this stuff and they have to think about this stuff because that's how people will maybe decide to do something about it. Because they fucking should.

not kidding. i wish i was. people love to pick holes in these things, ugh.

People have to hear about this stuff and they have to think about this stuff because that's how people will maybe decide to do something about it

exaaactlyyyy. this is why, when an issue comes up that bothers me, i don't stay silent about it - even if people think i'm overreacting or making ~a big deal about nothing~. there is nothing WORSE than complacency. how does anyone think we're ever going to reach ANY point of understanding our own privileges and recognising the importance of human equal rights if no one stands up for things that matter?

i'm so glad this article has gone viral around the internet. for once, a lot of people seem to be GETTING IT (well, those that aren't questioning the legitimacy of it, that is).

That's my attitude to issues of importance too; I may not be able to affect them personally, but what I can do is spread info and express my own opinion however I can, and that's going to have a much bigger effect than not doing or saying anything at all. Ignorance and indifference are the worst enemies of humanity in my eyes and the least we can do is kick them in the face.

I'm glad that this is going viral too, and that others are going viral too. They may attract asshole commenters but they also reach people who care and have capability to care, and that's the most important thing.
