Vid recs! All vids from [community profile] festivids.

Birds of Prey

As much as it had no common with the comics, I loved Birds of Prey for being the cheesy, soulful show it was, and I loved both vids that were done for the fest. The Birds Of Prey makes awesome use of R. Kelly's Gotham City (which I for some reason always thought was a Robbie Williams-song) and gives us a very warm and hopeful view of the the world of BoP, while Shadows is a darker and slicker vid, with more traditional glimpse into Gotham. The relationships between Dinah, Babs and Helena shine through in both vids, and made me miss the show a lot.

Fringe

Fringe is one of those which have great premise and potential, but doesn't really live up to either, which is a pity because it could be just absolutely fascinating. Etheric Messages shows Fringe's world through eyes of Olivia, and it's just as eerie, confusing and mysterious as it should be. It was also a good reminder of the main reason I watch the show, which is the awesome Olivia.

Leverage

This is their jam. That's pretty much the only way I can summarize In the Ayer, which is about Leverage team being best at what they do. All characters get their rightful amount of attention and it's just awesome.

Profit

When I think of Adam Lambert, Jim Profit isn't the first thing that comes to my mind. Imagine my surprise when Sleepwalker brought those two things together in a way that couldn't possibly NOT make sense. Awesome character study of Profit.

Sounds of Music

I've only seen Sounds of Music once in my life and that was a long time ago, but I remember how wonderful and warm and solid Maria was, and Lullabye for a Stormy Night is the most wonderful tribute to her and the movie. One of the most beautiful vids I've ever seen.

Twin Peaks

Is the fandom enough of a warning that Passenger Fever is creepy, twisted and will blow your mind? Well, there's your warning anyway. This vid is a beautiful combination of style and disturbing, just like the show itself was.

The Vampire Diaries

I watch this show for the girls, so it was awesome that they were in the center of the attention in these vids. AEIOU is about Elena and Stefan and how Stefan is over the top and how Elena is kind of sick of it, and it made me love Elena even more than I already do. Meanwhile Meddle is about Vicky and how she was screwed up and over, and how deceptive the feel-good side of her life was. It made me successfully feel bad about her story again. On the other hand Names is about Bonnie's story just getting started, and what a beautiful story it is.

As an extra, I also have a vid rec for Dexter. It's about Rita.

[personal profile] keewick's Stars was done before S4 ever began, and it's about Rita and what Dexter means to her. Back when I first watched this I remember being struck by how "off" Dexter's reactions to Rita seemed to be, like the emotion didn't go all the way with him while Rita was so obviously in love with him, and that ended up swallowing a lot of my attention. (I probably pulled that interpretation out of my ass since I have no clue if that's how Michael C. Hall intended it, but I couldn't shrug it off.) So seeing Rita so happy was a little hurtful to me due to that, but after S4 her happiness in the vid hurts for an entirely different reason, and yet it also doesn't; Dexter may have been "off", but he was good to her and for her, and he gave her comfort and balance and happiness, and really, that was all that mattered. I shipped Dexter/Rita shamelessly during the entire show despite its issue, and I just hate to think that we're not going to see any more of Rita and Dexter/Rita anymore.
