Some people got over 100. Should I develop an inferiority complex about this?

So, since I'm not going to get any new fic out this year, here's a meme about what I did get done.

Favorite story this year:

My best story this year: Sometimes I Hear My Voice. A FFVII-gen about Tifa's first years in Midgar, period of time that I find fascinating both reading- and writing-wise. Despite the little feedback I got, I was happy with the story myself, and it will get continuation in the future.

Most underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion: Sometimes I Hear My Voice, for the reasons mentioned above. Also, Forge Anew, which I will talk more about in the moment.

Most fun story: Forge Anew, in which I take on Steiner/Beatrix of FFIX. This story was challenging too because it was both my first time trying out the pairing and one of my rare attempts at humor, but once I got past the difficult parts, I had a lot of fun with it.

Sexiest story: So far I haven't written any actual smut, but I thought these three ficlets had nice sensuality to them: Fragile Beginnings (Rome, Vorenus/Niobe), Caution And Other Things (FFIX, Kuja/Hilda) and Moment of Ease (Star Wars, Kit/Aayla).

"Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story: I'll get back to this one day.

Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: A Shadow Is Cast may be just a drabble, and I don't think it was something never seen before in FFVIII-fandom, but I think I made some kind of connection with Rinoa through this that hadn't existed before. Another thing that's going to explored in the future.

Hardest story to do: Tie between Madonna and the so far secret Yuletide-fic. Madonna was a Silent Hill-fic with Henry/Cynthia-pairing, and I had trouble with deciding how to approach both, so the story ended up as this last-minute thing (it turned out well, though, at least in my opinion). Yuletide-fic, however, is for fandom I usually stay away from with very hard characters, and despite my attempts to stick with one idea only, I did end up bouncing between possibilities before finally settling for one. Discipline is something I need to work with.

Biggest surprise: Cage And A Bird, in sense that I never, ever saw myself writing about Smallville's Lana Lang. Not even a ficlet.

Most revealing story: Not exactly a story, but the potential story that is Dressing Dolls is all about my problems with the certain section of FFVII-fandom. I abandoned the idea after the strikethrough happened, but now that things have calmed a bit, I think I might return to it again.

This year was still very drabble-heavy for me, but I fully intend to change that next year. Writing always gives me heartache, but it's like an addiction: I can't stop.

And now, a real life meme snatched from [livejournal.com profile] kimouski!

POST-HOLIDAY MEME EXTRAVAGANZA, BABY!

1. Favorite/least favorite gift!
At the moment, my most favorite is Profit, The Complete Series (I'm still waiting for something special to arrive. It breaks my heart!). Having it in my paws gives me endless joy. The least favorite goes to the useless lottery ticket. My dad's idea of humor.

2. Favorite/least favorite relative, and why!
I usually spend Christmas with my immediate family only, which means I get to avoid most of my relatives (hee hee). So no real answers for this one.

3. Favorite/least favorite Christmas song!

Conveniently for me, I can answer to both points with the same song: Varpunen jouluaamuna (performed by Tarja Turunen), "A Sparrow in Christmas Morning", is a Finnish song about a girl and a sparrow. Translation of the lyrics is available here (search "The Sparrow's Christmas Morning"). It's a beautiful, sad song, and that's also why I can't sometimes bear to listen to it: the last verse never fails to make me cry.

POST-HOLIDAY MEME EXTRAVAGANZA BONUS QUESTIONS EXCLAMATIONS, BABY!

4. Age you stopped believing in Santa Claus!

Somewhere between 7 and 10, not sure when exactly.

5. Estimated holiday weight gain!

1 or 2 pounds, despite my prayers efforts not to get any. Blimey!

I'm most likely not going to post anything until next year, so Happy New Year to everybody! Don't walk into fireworks.

Dang, I wish I were in more of your fandoms! (I will be though, once I finish FFVII and later FFIX. It's a New Year's resolution to play more video games.

And I still love that Henry/Cynthia story. It was beautiful and dark and very Silent Hill.

I don't think I'll do this meme because I just did a fanfic meme, but at least I know what my "Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story was, considering I wrote Pyramid Head/James this year.

The FF-series is my oldest fandom after Star Wars (in order VII, VIII, VI and IX.. I'm familiar with X and its sequel too, but not too much), so I keep returning to them over and over again. I should spread out more, though. I just tend to stick those I've been familiar longest which..

I was happy with the Henry/Cynthia in the end, so while it wasn't easy story to write, it was worth it. I did have a lot of ideas for the pairing, but the problem was choosing what worked the best. I have to try Silent Hill-fic out again, though.. it's such a fascinating universe.

Also, Pyramid Head/James? Now that's a level of wrong to set as a goal! XD

I think I typed 43 words per minute. Feel better now? :(

You've had quite a productive year, regardless of fic lengths. There's an art to drabble. Some people have a few hundred words of nonsense. You, I feel, say what counts.

As for my meme, that song was very moving, even without knowing the lyrics.

Want to feel even worse? I sent the link to my brother, and he scored 124. That ain't right. :(

2007 was more productive for me than 2006, so it was a pretty good year for me. And a good drabble requires some effort, so it wasn't like I was slacking off with them. Trying to get some longer stuff done is a good goal, though.

Now, I haven't found a version of that song that would work for me 100 % (it's often performed by men, while I think it should be sung by female soprano), but it doesn't really matter because it gets to me anyway. Us Finns excel in depressing songs.
