I was fond of that edge too, and if the story had been pulled together tighter I probably wouldn't have wanted to rewrite it, but something just felt unbearably off to me. A lot of it had turned out to be about me forcing Finnish mechanisms into English, so I have to pay more attention to the honing process from now on. It feels more complete to me this way, but I need to find a way to preserve that slash of red you mentioned while honing the wooden structures out.
