All right. I live in Europe, in a country that loves to boast about how fine things are for women. Yet there are priests who want to start their own church because the Lutheran church allows women to work as priests, a law almost passed that would have forbidden lesbian couples and lonely women from getting fertility treatments in order to have children and East Finland has basically become a synonym for "rapists walking free". There's constant whining about women having too much power. (I distinctly remember a news paper article asking "Has equality gone too far?" as a valid question. IN NATION'S BIGGEST FUCKING PAPER.) Despite this, I would love to say it would be unlikely for something like what's being proposed in the States to happen in here.
It could be true. There has been no public discussion about restricting the right to abortion, and contraception of all forms is still encouraged. But I have a feeling in my gut, and that feeling says: "If it could happen over there, what would stop it from spreading to over here? All the way to where I live?" And frankly, I don't have a counter argument for that because the threat has already taken a step closer to becoming GODDAMN FUCKING REALITY.
I need the pill so that I won't spend my days in constant state of anemia. (Not a big deal, maybe, but important to me.) I need to know I have the power of choice over my body so that I can feel safe. What I especially need to know is that bunch of people with twisted ideals can't take that power away from me. This is not going to be a direct threat to me in a while, but it shouldn't be for anybody. What's happening now is pure evil, and there's nothing else to it. And that's all I can put coherently into words.
