Warning: Non-majority opinions ahead

The following posts sum up my stance on the matter.

[livejournal.com profile] furiosity: фонарь, веревка, лестница, correction to the translation of the interview that caused the outrage, also with more cultural POV.

[livejournal.com profile] cormallen: More about the cultural differences

[livejournal.com profile] senatorsfan_ink: LJ's Content Strike: why it won't work

[livejournal.com profile] chaineddove: Gotta fight, gotta strike, 'cause there's no turning away from what you don't want to know..., aka more about the interview and why the strike won't be useful.

[livejournal.com profile] pat_t: Journals - Bah humbug!, a comparison between IJ and LJ, showing why IJ isn't the fannish paradise.

[livejournal.com profile] romanyg: Anton Nosik isn't a fascist.

I never had any intention of participating in the boycott, but if I had, the following posts would have been convinced me not to for good: There are people who feel that LJ's actions justify antisemitism. NO. The boycott itself isn't antisemitic and it's not antisemitic to participate in it, but this combined with the increasing "Russians are going to kill us" mentality (which I, as a Finn, are very familiar with) have convinced me this is something I'll rather pass.

Now, something I feel that everybody should read: Labor of Love, written by Thomas Beatie, is an article about a married couple where the husband is transgender, and who, due to his wife's inability to carry a child, decided to stop taking his testosterone and was inseminated. Despite the distinct lack of support from their family, friends and the doctors, the couple is now waiting for a healthy baby who's due in July. Definitely an inspiring story.

Heavens! You mean I’ve missed out on yet another wank? How sad and shocking. I have no idea what this fuss is about, but I will take a moment to share my completely uniformed opinion!

Okay, it goes like this. Most of LJ fandom is American, right? That’s been my impression, at least. So I’m surprised these stalwart liberal activists haven’t found—oh, I don’t know—real-world causes to take up in a critical election year. Funny, that.

A brave attempt at a summary: 1) basic accounts are gone 2) some interests disappeared from the popular interests list for a while and then returned 3) somebody decided a one-day boycott is a good idea and some LJ-owner/PR-person/whatever expressed unhappiness over that in an interview, which in turn made LJ-users unhappy. Trust me, any further details are just going to hurt you.

And, well, considering all the screams of "But that's NOT the American way!" I've heard during this, I'd say LJ-fandom is mostly American. But it's like people are out to take this personally no matter what, which I don't get.
