Dear Santa,

First, I want to say that I'm really happy that you decided to try Yuletide out this year. Every year it has turned out to be one hell of a challenge for me, and I have a feeling that you might share that with me, so I hope you're feeling good about this. But even if you're feeling nervous (or if I made you nervous!), I want to assure you that there's no need feeling that way. Yuletide has been fun for me every year, and I'm confident that you're going to have a blast with it, too. I hope my requests feel interesting and challenging to you.

I usually tend to make very specific requests, but if you feel restricted by them, there's absolutely no need for you to try to force yourself to write something that feels uncomfortable for you. Yuletide should be fun for both writers and requesters, and the most important thing for me is that you have fun with this challenge. However, if you want me to get even more specific about what I want.. well, here we go.

Deadwood

Al Swearengen was the main attraction for me in this show during all of it, so it's him I'm most interested in. I was especially interested in his interaction with Bullock, which is why Swearengen/Bullock is the first thing in my mind when it comes to fic, but if you're not okay with that, it's fine. I'm a sucker for anything with Swearengen in it, so gen fic with him would be a real treat as well. I would especially love to see just how he earned the loyalty of so many people at Gem despite his personality.

As far as Seth and Wild Bill go, I was very into their interaction in the first episodes of the show, so some slash about the two of them would be pretty awesome as well. Gen wise I would either love to see how Seth inches towards his historic self and how Martha fits into his life, or about friendship between Bill, Charlie and Jane (doesn't have to be from Bill's point of view).

Spider-Man (comics)

The fact is this: I have a thing for magnificent bastards like Norman Osborn. I think there's hideously little fic about him out there, with exception of his movieverse self (which I don't mind, but I'd love to see something for the comics version as well), so I'm dying to see something interesting done with him. Also, as a friend of villain/hero-relationships, something that deals with his relationship with Peter would be absolutely fantastic. With these two, I want something creepy, whether you're going with slash or gen. I don't have problems with Norman having some sympathetic traits, though, as long as he remains his ruthless self. Just how badly he messes up with Peter's head is entirely up for you, I'm cool with everything.

I would also appreciate something with Venom and Spider-Man. Something creepy would be lovely here as well, but I would also like to see something that's sympathetic to poor Eddie. Gen is fine here too, also with Venom only.

Aliens series

I've always wanted to see something that compares Ripley and the alien queen as mothers, their differences and similarities, the latter especially. Something where Ripley realizes how much common she has with the queen would be really wonderful, and although I would like it if the story had horror elements to it, it's not necessary, and the queen and Ripley don't have to directly face each other. I would also love to see fic about Ripley's connection to Call, and while my tastes Aliens-wise are very gen, femslashy elements are both supported and encouraged.

Gotham Central

Half a Life was the storyline that introduced me to Gotham Central and the one I'm still most attracted to, and a lot of that had to do with Renee and Two-Face. (Although their interaction in these scans had a big effect on me, too. VERY big, in fact.) So my biggest wish would be to see something about them. Something that goes beyond Gotham Central. Something dark and dysfunctional, or something sympathetic, as long as the connection between them is there. But again, something with just Renee or Gotham Central in general is great in my eyes too. If you're going with a Renee-centric fic, cameos by Vic and Kate would be a nice nod, but completely optional.

As you probably noticed from these details, while my requests were all more or less 'shippy in nature, I'm pretty much a gen person at heart, and my favorite type of fiction is character-driven. Get the characters and what they're about and you'll make me a very happy reader. You also may have noticed that none of these requests were exactly fluffy by nature, so I might as well come out and say that I'm fascinated with difficult relationships, which are bitter or bittersweet and full of tension, sometimes even unpleasant. I love dark-fic, especially the subtle, creepy kind, but a story doesn't have to be dark in order for me to enjoy it. I just want acknowledgment from the author that these aren't easy characters or relationships that we're talking about here. My dislikes include characters with spines getting overly depressed, suicidal or just plain broken, overdone smugness of dastardly characters, insensitive tricksters and complete ignorance of canon. Subtlety is something I love, as is conflict. I don't have a problem with non-con, but I don't approve rape turning into love, unless it's intended to be disturbing.

Now, my request are all more or less dark in nature, but if dark-fic just isn't your thing, you don't have to go that way. I'm all in for lighter interpretations, so there's a lighter option available for all the requests above, and as I said before, you don't have to think about details too deeply. Write what feels right and comfortable for you. Gen, het, slash, femslash, smut or no smut, it's all good for me. I want you to have the time of your life in Yuletide, so set no limits for your creativity and ignore those that might exist, and most of all, enjoy yourself. Thank you, and have fun!

PS. If you want more information about what kind of stuff works for me, please check out my recs tag, and perhaps list of my own fic will help you, too. Also, my favorite author at the moment is [livejournal.com profile] delladella, and I've loved everything she's written. I hope these help you a little!
