Fannish Friday Five
This being Fannish Friday Five, I should have done this on.. Friday. Anyway.
fannish5: Name five stories that aren't a type you normally like (because of characters, pairing, topic, etc.) that you really enjoyed.
1) Gray, by motchi aka
kimouski.
Why I normally wouldn't like it: It's Sephiroth/Tifa. It's a pairing that has less than zero chances of ever happening, so the fact that this is set in Kingdom Hearts rather than in FFVII helps a lot. Other helpful factors are that Sephiroth feels like Sephiroth, he and Tifa don't magically get along and that the story is simply well written. Sadly, because Kim is mean, the story is currently on hiatus, but what's up now is worth reading.
2) Midnight Sun, by ishafel.
Why I normally wouldn't like it: It's RPF. The pairing is Paris Hilton/Eminem. Now, RPF tends to be a little too weird for my tastes, but sometimes I check out a fic to see if it managed to click for me, and this was one of those stories. This fic makes Paris and Eminem sweet people, so sweet that I actually wanted to see them become a pair in real life. So this works.
I've also seen a good Britney vs. zombies-story and one where Katie Holmes is saved from Tom Cruise, but I think I'll skip those for now.
3) Grief And Graveyard Love, by Megan
Why I normally wouldn't like it: It's incest. The pairing is Buffy/Dawn. For an incest pairing to work for me even on one level, the dynamics in the canon relationship need to be unbalanced enough for something like this to happen, and Buffy/Dawn isn't one of those pairings. This story, however, makes Buffy/Dawn creepy enough for me to buy it, even if just during this story only.
4) Big, by Hetre Z
Why I normally wouldn't like it: It's a South Park-fic. No offense to those who write or read South Park-fic, but the idea of South Park and fic usually refuse to click in my mind. But Big is just a great fic. It's Kyle-centric, and it's angsty, and it's distinctly South Park. And it's a pretty good achievement in my eyes.
5) Done To Death, by Anne Hedonia
Why I normally shouldn't like it: It's Spike/Tara. I have a very strong feeling that I should object to this pairing. Tara is, after all, a lesbian, and Spike isn't exactly good for her. But I can't help it, I love this pairing. And it's because of this fic that I love it. And I probably shouldn't like this fic so much either. Hell, the concept is that Tara wants to kill herself and Spike sets out to giving her a reason to live every day. I should be shrieking in protest, but I'm not. I'm shameless.

I thought about Gray on Friday night. Resolved most of the whole "Why am I writing this again? Why is this story happening?"
The bad news?
I feel asleep in the tub and forgot probably half of what I came up with.
