I have things to share!

- This post is a description of my life. I'm actually okay with this.

- For Mad Men-fans and friends of clothes, be sure to check Tom & Lorenzo's (who run an awesome blog about fashion and TV-shows) series on clothes in Mad Men and what those clothes tell about their wearers. Awesome stuff.

- My 750 Words process keeps on being a process, and after last week's break of the word dam in general this week was all about my creativity dam breaking, which means I have finally reached that stage again where I don't hate everything I write. YES! \o/

- Thanks to this I'm finally, FINALLY getting around to posting my woefully late [livejournal.com profile] help_haiti fic, after which I'll write the other stuff I've promised to people. A lesson learned: Don't participate in these events gain because this is PATHETIC AND YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED, SELF.

- I've been riding on a massive emotional roller-coaster for, like, forever, ranging from life changes to a long-time identity issue, but now things are starting to click in place. I feel extremely great over this.

- Will get around to posting the posts for my latest meme (LJ/DW) as well as the memes [livejournal.com profile] mrasaki tagged me for a long time ago (seriously, who is late in doing meme answers?). But in order to aid myself in getting rid of the "never post anything ever" habit, here is a 30 Days Of TV Meme.

Day 01 - A show that should never have been cancelled )

I need some brain exercise, so if you want to make me babble my head off then here is your chance.

What kind of topics/entries would you like to see me posting about? Any particular questions you've always wanted to ask me but have resisted because the answer would be a huge essay? Ever want to wind me up and watch me go on a particular topic? Anything you've heard me say "I should write that entry about $foo I've been meaning to write" and have been patiently waiting for?

Everything goes!

A short round-up of things.

- The news about Supernatural-fandom's latest fail has spread far and wide, but since one more link doesn't hurt, here's one to the best summary about what is going on. A short description: An author writes a Jensen Ackles/Jared Padalecki RPF in which they have sexy times in Haiti, and actual people of Haiti are exploited on the side. The author is called out on it, the author gets defensive. Discussion is had. I don't have anything to add that hasn't been said better by many others (such as here), but I think this kind of a story would have completely passed the radar completely in a smaller fandom, so the fact that it's talked about in the first place is pretty damn good.

- There has also been discussion about the exploitative side of hurt/comfort fiction, and while hurt/comfort is a total id genre and therefore incredibly appealing to me, after years of reading fetishistic Cloud-fic in FF7-fandom all I can say is ABOUT DAMN TIME. This and this are great posts about the subject.

- As far as real life politics go, Finland will soon have its second female prime minister, and perhaps even more importantly, its first female bishop. Female bishop who also happens to support same-sex marriages, which makes her very awesome.

- As far as real life politics further go, the trial against Prop 8 is ending soon. There is only one proper ending for that trial and that is that Prop 8 GOES DOWN.

I've been feeling very depressed about my writing some time now (think a year WAIT HOW DID I LET THAT HAPPEN), and as a consequence I also haven't been writing much. I've been searching for ways to finally break out of that funk, and I finally found one in 750 Words.

The idea of 750 Words is what the title and the fact it's a writing-related site implies: your goal is to write 750 words every day, and you can do that on the site itself in complete privacy. You get points and badges for writing and you can get stats for each entry about how quickly you're writing, what words you use the most, what is the mood of your entry and so on. I only started using it this week but it has already succeeded in encouraging me to write every day, and given how long my funks tend to last that is a huge thing. Thanks to [personal profile] littlebutfierce for introducing this!

Women, solidarity and no-conflict-ever programming

It's an interesting post about friendships between women and how conflicts are handled in them. I'm not sure if I fully agree with it since I'm getting a "girls always use passive-aggressive methods and boys don't" vibe from it (which I disagree with since I've met plenty of passive-aggressive guys), but then again

On lighter note, WTF is with Google forcing a background picture on you? My eyes were perfectly fine with the plain black and white, thank you very much!

Does anybody have any recs for stomach-friendly recipes, blogs/sites with recipes or eatable things in general? Something low on gluten/lactose would be especially nice since I seem to have lost my tolerance for bread. :\

My life is going to get busy very soon, so let us procrastinate before that busy time!

Okay, so my fic is too drabble/ficlet based for people to get grasp of it, but..

Now, some writers embrace their id and write it all out there, and that can be a fabulous thing. Self-awareness FTW. But often when I'm reading a fic I find myself wanting to tap the author and say, "Pardon me, did you know your id is showing?"

So, a couple of us got to wondering what our fics revealed about us. Hence this anonymeme. Are our ids showing?

Tell meeeeeeeeee...

In the blogging meme, [personal profile] merfilly asked me to post about Farscape. Expect shameless love.

There is this massive unpleasant thing going on in Supernatural-fandom which includes assholes trying to force people to sexual situations they're uncomfortable with and people defending these assholes. The link above sums up the situation and there are more posts here. My own stance consists of following points:

Return to working full-time instead of part-time has turned out to be more exhausting than I expected. It's like I need sleep or something!

I have things to do before I tackle this, but since I hang around in a lot of TV fandoms and barely ever talk about them I thought this meme would be a great way to get to talk about them as much as I feel like.

The meme itself )

Commitments first though.

For those who were wondering, the last night's post was a result of frustration with school and work things, ear infections that will apparently haunt me forever and bad judgment. I locked it away from further embarrassing me.

However, it and the entire Three Weeks thing made me realize something: Whether it's on LJ or DW, I still have no clue what exactly I want to use my journal for.

More thoughts )

So there was your daily dose of navel-gazing angst. Here, have a sweet little Single Ladies-parody.

Look at that unimaginative title. I'll blame it on my swollen ear.

Anyway, today I'm just going to plug the following post: No country for strangers by [personal profile] ephemere, which is about things you need to be willing to deal with and think about if you want to write about other cultures. It's very good to read.

Two things:

1. In real life, I have been working on the final paper for my bachelor's degree ever since last year, and after several exhausting months it seems to be finally on its way out of my life. My thoughts about this can be summed up as YES.

2. The paper also turned me into a fannish zombie for, like, months, so what better way is there to get past that than jumping on the bandwagon and participating in [community profile] three_weeks_for_dw! That means posting DW-only stuff during the next three weeks, which will include my long overdue fic commitments (such as my poor [livejournal.com profile] help_haiti fic and the flister requests). Also, responses to any prompts I get for the following meme:

Everyone has things they blog about. Everyone has things they don't blog about. Challenge me out of my comfort zone by telling me something I don't blog about, but you'd like to hear about, and I'll write a post about it. Ask for anything: latest movie watched, last book read, political leanings, thoughts on alfalfa, favourite type of underwear, graphic techniques, etc. Repost in your own journal so that we can all learn more about each other. Fannish topics welcomed. Affectionately taken from [personal profile] the_wanlorn.

Whether this will lead to me finally becoming an active person on LJ/DW/general blogosphere remains to be seen, but now I can say I've taken steps.
